“Ransomware in itself is the delivery of a virus that gets into your network and begins to encrypt various aspects of your network to the point that the only way to open it is to be provided the key or essentially to release that information by the perpetrator, which means that people have to pay for it.” Says CEO of FITECH Ian Marlow.
Ian also added ,”it depends upon how your network infrastructure is designed. And some of the aging infrastructure that we have today in use is not really designed to be able to counter some of these attacks.” The truth is, it’s quite difficult, especially with now the change with cryptocurrency used to be that many of the attacks that we come in, they would find very creative ways, you know, but were traceable ways to deal with payments.
So depending upon how any ransomware gets paid for, if it uses a cryptocurrency, it’s practically impossible to be able to see specifically where the attack is coming from.
